Blackmoor, England 1891.

Mit Art Malik (Singh), David Schofield (Constable Nye), David Sterne (Kirk), Simon Merrells (Ben Talbot), Cristina Contes (Solona Talbot), Michael Cronin (Dr. Lloyd), Nicholas Day (Colonel Montford), Clive Russell (MacQueen), Roger Frost (Reverend Fisk).

Blackmoor, England 1891. The son of the lord of the castle, Benicio del Toro (Ben Talbot) disappears. This prompts his brother, Benicio del Toro (Lawrence Talbot), to return home. His father, Anthony Hopkins (Sir John Talbot) reports that the body has been found. There is speculation in the village. A troop of gypsies is suspected. Del Toro recalls his mother’s suicide when he was a child. Del Toro visits the gypsies during the full moon. The villagers storm their camp, but a werewolf attacks and bites del Toro. The old gypsy woman Geraldine Chaplin (Maleva) treats him but says only a loved one can redeem him. Blackmoor Castle seems to be cursed. Inspector Hugo Weaving (Francis Aberline) arrives from London to investigate. He believes in del Toro’s responsibility. Emily Blunt (Gwen Conliffe), fiancée of the dead brother and now devoted to del Toro, is sent home to London for safety. Del Toro mutates into a wolf man at night and begins killing in the forest. Del Toro is arrested and taken to Lambeth Hospital, where he had been as a child. During a visit, Hopkins reveals to him that 25 years ago he was bitten by a boy in India who turned him into a lycanthrope. Del Toro now knows that Hopkins killed his mother and brother. His doctor Antony Sher (Dr Hoenneger) shows him off to his students in the evenings. Del Toro mutates and terrifies the whole of London as the Wolf Man. The next day, he and Blunt confess their love for each other. In Blackmoor, The Police have a showdown. He and Hopkins clash as werewolves. In the forest del Toro meets Blunt, who shoots him for love.

The resurrection of the 1941 Wolf Man leaves the story in England and retains the will to Gothic horror. Its story, unfortunately, is not built up, but bounces abruptly from atmospheric images to climax, and, where slowness would help, indulges in fast blood horror. There is nothing mysterious about it. Begins with Siodmak’s poem about the blooming wolf flower from the old film, and has something to offer visually in the scenery again and again.
