Rosen für Bettina

München. In der Oper feiert Ballerina Elisabeth Müller (Bettina Sanden) einen Triumph ; sie freut sich darauf, mit ihrem Freund und Choreographen Ivan Desny (Kostja Tomkoff) nunmehr ein « modernes » Ballett in dem von Desny geschaffenen « Bolero » mit Ravelscher Musik zu proben. Ein Angebot aus USA will sie ausschlagen. Doch am Abend in der Wohnung ist sie plötzlich gelähmt – spinale Kinderlähmung, wie die Ärzte Carl Wery (Dr. Brinkmann) und Willy Birgel (Prof. Förster) im St. Katharinenhospital herausbringen. Birgel holt sie in seine Klinik. Desny, erst widerwillig, muss mit Eva Kerbler (Irene Gerwig) als Ersatz auskommen. Das Ballett ist erfolgreich, es kommt ein Angebot aus Barcelona. Desny und Kerbler werden ein Paar. Müller wird im unklaren gehalten. Doch sie rafft sich auf, schließt sich Birgel an und besucht gar eine Premiere von Kerbler in München.

Ballettnummern und das damalige Diskussionsthema Kinderlähmung, hier freilich nahezu nebenher geheilt, sind die Themen dieses Films – seine Protagonisten, große Namen, wirken in der matten Inszenierung der schematischen, nicht aber organischen Entwicklung wie Statisten.

Munich. At the opera, ballerina Elisabeth Müller (Bettina Sanden) is celebrating a triumph ; she is looking forward to rehearsing a “ modern “ ballet with her friend and choreographer Ivan Desny (Kostja Tomkoff) now in the “ Bolero “ created by Desny with music by Ravel. She wants to turn down an offer from the USA. But in the evening at the flat she is suddenly paralysed – spinal polio, as the doctors Carl Wery (Dr. Brinkmann) and Willy Birgel (Prof. Förster) at St. Katharinenhospital discover. Birgel brings her to his clinic. Desny, reluctant at first, has to make do with Eva Kerbler (Irene Gerwig) as a replacement. The ballet is successful, an offer comes from Barcelona. Desny and Kerbler become a couple. Müller is kept in the dark. But she pulls herself together, joins Birgel and even attends a premiere by Kerbler in Munich.

Ballet numbers and the topic of discussion at the time, polio, here cured almost incidentally, are the themes of this film – its protagonists, big names, seem like extras in the dull staging of the schematic, but not organic development.
