Nach fünf im Urwald

Altötting 1995. Die 17jährige Franka Potente (Anna Schwarz) will im Hause ihrer Eltern Axel Milberg (Wolfgang) und Dagmar Manzel (Karin) in deren Abwesenheit ihren 18. Geburtstag feiern. Milberg kandidiert für das Amt des Bürgermeisters im Ort und ist penibel.  Das Haus sieht danach schlimm aus; als Milberg Potente ohrfeigt und ihr ihre Fahrt zum Musik-Casting nach München verbietet, reißt diese aus und fährt mit dem jungen Thomas Schmauser (Simon) im Auto hin. Das Casting nervt; der junge Produktionsleiter Johann von Bülow (Nick) tröstet sie, erweist sich aber als Verführer. Ebenso aus dessen Umfeld Max Urlacher (Ben). Potente strebt zurück, aber inzwischen ist die Suche ihrer Eltern aus dem Ruder gelaufen und endet mit einem Trinkgelage mit einem befreundeten Ehepaar, dessen weiblicher Teil Sibylle Canonica (Johanna) sich als Jugendliebe von Milberg entpuppt. Potente versöhnt sich mit ihren Eltern.

Statt Handlung Atmosphäre: Dieser Spielfilmerstling führt seine Figuren betulich, in erfundener Lebensnähe etwas linkisch durch nicht etwa einen Urwald, sondern einen konstruierten Vater – Tochter Konflikt. Franka Potente steht im Mittelpunkt, ein bißchen Profil darf sie zeigen – nicht zuviel.

Altötting 1995. 17-year-old Franka Potente (Anna Schwarz) wants to celebrate her 18th birthday at the home of her parents Axel Milberg (Wolfgang) and Dagmar Manzel (Karin) in their absence. Milberg is running for mayor of the town and is meticulous.  The house looks a mess afterwards; when Milberg slaps Potente and forbids her to go to a music casting in Munich, she leaves and drives there in the car with the young Thomas Schmauser (Simon). The casting is annoying; the young production manager Johann von Bülow (Nick) comforts her, but proves to be a seducer. So does Max Urlacher (Ben) from his circle. Potente strives to return, but in the meantime her parents‘ search has got out of hand and ends with a drinking session with a couple they are friends with, whose female partner Sibylle Canonica (Johanna) turns out to be Milberg’s childhood sweetheart. Potente reconciles with her parents.

Instead of plot, atmosphere: this feature film debut leads its characters through a contrived father-daughter conflict, not a jungle, but a constructed one. Franka Potente takes centre stage, she is allowed to show a little profile – but not too much.
