Hotel Adlon

Berlin 1946. Der ehemalige Mitarbeiter Sebastian Fischer (Paul Rippert) tappt durch die Ruinen des Hotel Adlon, das 1917 Werner Hinz (Lorenz Adlon) in Anwesenheit des Kaisers mit 20 Millionen Schulden eröffnet hat – dort hat er klein angefangen.. Das Hotel wird zum Begriff in der Stadt. Es gibt Skandale. Ein Attentat auf den Zaren kann gerade noch verhindert werden. 1921 stirbt Hinz; in den 20erJahren sind Hoteldiebe und Freischärler im Haus. Den 2. Weltkrieg übersteht es. Danach führt Brandstiftung zur Zerstörung des Hauses.

Relativ nüchterne Darstellung eines legendären Hotels, das zu Zeiten der Herstellung des Films Geschichte war und inzwischen wieder erstanden ist. Kein Melodram, aber deutsche Geschichte in szenischer Form.

Berlin, 1946. Former employee Sebastian Fischer (Paul Rippert) stumbles through the ruins of the Hotel Adlon, which Werner Hinz (Lorenz Adlon) had opened in 1917 in the presence of the Emperor, burdened with 20 million in debt – that’s where he started out. The hotel becomes a household name in the city. There are scandals. An assassination attempt on the Tsar is narrowly averted. Hinz dies in 1921; in the 1920s, hotel thieves and guerrilla fighters roam the premises. It survives the Second World War. Afterwards, arson leads to the destruction of the building.

A relatively sober portrayal of a legendary hotel that was already a thing of the past by the time the film was made, but which has since been restored. Not a melodrama, but German history presented in cinematic form.
