Texas 1981.

Mit Danny Glover (Teddy Green), Tika Sumpter (Maureen Hunt), Tom Waits (Waller), Isia Whitlock (Gene Dentler), Keith Carradine (Captain Calder), John David Washington (Lt. Kelly).

Texas 1981. 74-year-old bank robber Robert Redford (Forrest Tucker), who escaped from St. Quentin two years ago, has just robbed another bank – as usual, politely and without violence. While fleeing in his car, he helps – for tactical reasons – Sissy Spacek (Jewel) at the side of the road in a car breakdown and makes friends with her.  Detective Casey Affleck (John Hunt), witness of the robbery, starts investigations against Redford’s gang of pensioners. Although the FBI soon takes him off the case, he continues working and comes up with Tucker’s identity. He is contacted by Elisabeth Moss (Dorothy Haye), who calls herself Redford’s daughter. She introduces him to Redford’s former lawyer – eventually Redford is arrested. On Spacek’s advice he serves his sentence. Afterwards he lives with Spacek on her farm. Then he says goodbye for „short“.  He also calls Affleck, who asks him about his well-being. Redford says he’ll soon be well and robs a bank…

Robert Redford, over 80, plays well and has the burden of carrying the film. That’s not easy, because although the story of Forrest Tucker is original, it needs some ingredients for a feature length film, otherwise it won’t carry. Most of it is only reported, not shown, and Sissy Spacek just watches the hero a little bit. So we watch the old gentlemen philosophizing, bank robbery casually on the side, a kind of bad habit. That threatens to fall into boredom more often than not, then it catches up again. The technology of the 80s keeps getting its scenes – probably as a counterpoint to the pseudo-perfection of later years.
