Die Legende vom Werwolf

Frankreich, 19. Jahrhundert. Ein Kleinkind geht im Wald verloren. Die Wölfe nehmen sich seiner an. Der Schausteller Hugh Griffith (Maestro Pamponi) nimmt ihn in sein „Ensemble“ auf, aber die Wolfsinstinkte bei Vollmond lassen ihn Davind Rintoul (Etoile), Griffiths Hilfe Norman Mitchell (Tiny) töten. Er flieht, erreicht Paris, arbeitet dort im Zoo, und verliebt sich in Lynn Dalby (Christine), eine Prostituierte vom Bordell nebenan. Als er ihren Beruf erfährt, bringt er ihre Freier um – aus der besten Gesellschaft. Stefan Gryff (Max Gerard) jagt die Werewolfsgestalt in der Pariser Kanalisation. Mit einem Schuss und einer Silberkugel tötet er ihn – und verwandelt ihn dadurch wieder zum Zooassistenten.

Billig gemachte Variante des Werwolf Motivs, von der Story nicht ungeschickt aufgezogen, aber erkennbar ohne ausreichendes Budget und zusätzlich verminderter Glaubhaftigkeit, wenn der Ort der Handlung verblüffender Weise „Paris“ sein soll. Lichtblick: Peter Cushing, verlässlich wie immer.

France, 19th century. A small child goes missing in the forest. The wolves take care of him. The showman Hugh Griffith (Maestro Pamponi) takes him into his ‘ensemble’, but the wolf instincts at full moon cause him, David Rintoul (Etoile), Griffith’s help to kill Norman Mitchell (Tiny). He escapes, reaches Paris, works at the zoo there, and falls in love with Lynn Dalby (Christine), a prostitute from the brothel next door. When he discovers her profession, he kills her clients – from high society. Stefan Gryff (Max Gerard) hunts the werewolf figure in the Paris sewers. He kills him with a shot and a silver bullet – and turns him back into a zoo assistant.

A cheaply made variation on the werewolf motif, not ineptly presented in terms of the story, but recognisably without a sufficient budget and with an additional reduction in credibility when the location of the action is supposed to be ‘Paris’. A ray of hope: Peter Cushing, as reliable as ever.
