Der Mann mit den 1000 Masken

London 1965. Nachdem Spezialagent Paul Hubschmid (Paul Finney, „Supersieben“) von einem Einsatz gegen Goldschmuggler aus Kopenhagen zurück ist, beauftragt ihn die britische Regierung mit der Überwachung eines Diamanten Transports, den die britische Regierung zur Sicherung des US-Kredits von einer Milliarde Dollar für einen neuen pro-westlichen  afrikanischen Staatenbund in die US-Botschaft in Rom bereitstellt. Rasch erweist sich, daß Nando Gazzolos (Kobras) Verbrecherorganisation hinter Geld und Diamanten her sind. Sie holen sich das bare Geld in Basel, tauschen es in Blüten und fangen Hubschmid, der von der FBI Agentin Karin Dor (Helen Farheit) flankiert wird, bringen ihn nach Ghana, wo damit eine Raketenversuchsstation im Auftrag Chinas aufgebaut wird. Dort entkommt Hubschmid, die fast fertige Station wird zerstört.

Vorsicht schadet nicht: der Chinese mit der Rolle des „Jin Jin“, der Auftraggeber der Verbrecher, taucht in keinem Rollenverzeichnis auf. Die Geschichte braucht lange, bis sie in Gang kommt, Hubschmid als simplem Weiberheld und der anderen Besetzung wird schauspielerisch nichts abverlangt: im Zentrum steht Action, das Farbfilmmaterial ist nicht das Beste und man beginnt, sich auf das Ende zu freuen.

London, 1965. After Special Agent Paul Hubschmid (Paul Finney, ‘Super Seven’) returns from a mission against gold smugglers in Copenhagen, the British Government tasks him with monitoring a diamond shipment that the British Government is providing to the US Embassy in Rome to secure a US$1 billion loan for a new pro-Western African confederation of states. It soon becomes clear that Nando Gazzolo’s (Kobras) criminal organisation is after both the money and the diamonds. They collect the cash in Basel, swap it for counterfeit notes and capture Hubschmid – who is flanked by FBI agent Karin Dor (Helen Farheit) – taking him to Ghana, where a missile test site is being built on behalf of China. There, Hubschmid escapes and the almost-completed station is destroyed.

It’s best to be cautious: the Chinese actor playing the role of ‘Jin Jin’, the criminals’ client, does not appear in any cast list. The story takes a long time to get going; Hubschmid is portrayed as a simple womaniser, and the rest of the cast are not asked to deliver much in the way of acting: the focus is on action, the colour film material isn’t the best, and you start looking forward to the end.
