Der Bastard

Phoenix. Giuliano Gemma (Jason Williams) raubt Juwelen im Wert von über 200.000 Dollar. Danach überfallen ihn andere Gangster. Er verbringt mit seinem Bruder Klaus Kinski (Adam Williams) Zeit beim Geburtstag seiner Mutter Rita Hayworth (Martha Williams). Kinski will ihm den Raub abnehmen. Dabei hilft ihm Gemmas Freundin Margaret Lee (Karen). Kinski zerstört Gemmas Schußhand, durch den Verrat Lees verliert Gemma den Raub. Er bringt sich das Schießen mit der linken Hand bei. Er folgt Kinski und Lee nach Mexiko. Dort kommt Lee bei einem Erdbeben um. Gemma rettet den verschütteten Kinski – und erschießt ihn danach kaltblütig.

Das Böse im italienischen Western ist mathematisch exakt – Zwischentöne gibt es nicht. So auch hier: Gemma hat – ohne weiteren Charakter – eine Portion Sympathie, Kinski nichts davon. Mädchen entziehen sich der Mathematik. Innerhalb dieser Vorgaben, nach etwas Anlauf, funktioniert der Film gut…

Phoenix. Giuliano Gemma (Jason Williams) robs jewellery worth over 200,000 dollars. He is then attacked by other gangsters. He spends time with his brother Klaus Kinski (Adam Williams) at his mother Rita Hayworth’s (Martha Williams) birthday party. Kinski wants to take the robbery off his hands. Gemma’s friend Margaret Lee (Karen) helps him. Kinski destroys Gemma’s shooting hand and Gemma loses the robbery because of Lee’s betrayal. He teaches himself to shoot with his left hand. He follows Kinski and Lee to Mexico. There Lee is killed in an earthquake. Gemma rescues the trapped Kinski – and then shoots him in cold blood.

Evil in the Italian western is mathematically exact – there are no nuances. This is also the case here: Gemma has – without any other character – a portion of sympathy, Kinski none of it. Girls elude mathematics. Within these guidelines, after a bit of a run-up, the film works well…
