Das Tal der toten Mädchen

Pamplona. Weil sie aus der Gegend kommt, wird Kriminalkommissar Marta Etura (Amaia Salazar) nach Elizondo entsandt, um einen Mädchenmord aufzuklären. In wenigen Tagen gibt es weitere Morde und stellt sich heraus, daß es schon früher eine Mordserie gab, die dann aufhörte. Doch als die Bäckerei von Eturas Schwester Elvira Mínguez (Flora) in den Ermittlungen eine Rolle zu spielen beginnt, wird Etura abgezogen. Die erforscht stattdessen die Geschichte ihrer Familie während ihrer Abwesenheit in Pamplona – und erkennt in Minguez Mann Quique Gago (Viktor) den Mörder, der mit einem Frauen- und Unschuldskomplex beladen ist. Einige Morde bleiben freilich unaufgeklärt.

Film (und wohl auch die Vorlage) versuchen, einen durchschnittlichen und konstruierten Kriminalfall mit baskischer Mythologie zu überhöhen, wobei dem Film auch gute Kameraarbeit etwas hilft. Nachdem man zunächst biedere Aufklärung sieht, entgleist der Film bei der Familienforschung. Ansehnlich, wenn auch überschätzt.

Pamplona. Because she comes from the area, Detective Inspector Marta Etura (Amaia Salazar) is sent to Elizondo to solve the murder of a girl. In a few days there are more murders and it turns out that there had been a series of murders before, which then stopped. But when Etura’s sister Elvira Mínguez’s (Flora) bakery begins to play a role in the investigation, Etura is taken off the case. Instead, she researches the history of her family during her absence in Pamplona – and recognises the murderer in Minguez’s husband Quique Gago (Viktor), who is burdened with a woman and innocence complex. However, some of the murders remain unsolved.

The film (and probably also the original) try to elevate an average and contrived criminal case with Basque mythology, whereby the film is also helped somewhat by good camera work. After an initially bland investigation, the film derails during the family research. A respectable, if overrated, film.
