Das Geheimnis der verwunschenen Höhle

Rathcullen, Irland. Albert Sharpe (Darby O’Gill) prahlt in der Kneipe mit seiner Bekanntschaft mit Jimmy O’Dea (Brian Connors), dem König der „kleinen Leute“. Doch Alter und Suff machen ihn als Gutsverwalter für Walter Fitzgerald (Lord Fitzpatrick) unbrauchbar. Der holt sich stattdessen Sean Connery (Michael McBride) aus Dublin. Sharpe möchte seine Tochter Janet Munro (Katie O’Gill) mit Connery verkuppeln, doch die will nicht. Da kann nur O’Dea helfen. Er nimmt ihn gefangen und hat drei Wünsche bei ihm frei. Doch Munro verletzt sich bei der Verfolgung eines Pferds auf den Tod. Die finstere Todeskutsche rollt vom Himmel herab. Doch Sharpe wünscht sich, statt Munro in die Todeskutsche einsteigen. Er kommt mit einem Trick zur Erde zurück. Munro und Connery kommen zusammen, er geht wieder ins Wirtshaus.

Liebevolle Darstellung der irischen Sagenwelt, und Zwergenvölker spielen auch in der deutschen Mythologie eine Rolle. Geschickt wird die Grenze zwischen Realität und Phantasie verwischt und die Notwendigkeit solcher Parallel-, auch Schattenwelten für den Menschen belegt. Photographisch innovativ unter Vermeidung technischer Trickphotographie, jedoch insgesamt etwas zu lang geraten.

Rathcullen, Ireland. Albert Sharpe (Darby O’Gill) brags in the pub about his acquaintance with Jimmy O’Dea (Brian Connors), the king of the ‘little people’. But age and drink make him useless as an estate manager for Walter Fitzgerald (Lord Fitzpatrick). He gets Sean Connery (Michael McBride) from Dublin instead. Sharpe wants to fix up his daughter Janet Munro (Katie O’Gill) with Connery, but she doesn’t want to. Only O’Dea can help. He captures him and has three wishes granted. But Munro injures himself to death while chasing a horse. The sinister death carriage rolls down from the sky. But Sharpe wishes to get into the death carriage instead of Munro. He returns to earth with a trick. Munro and Connery are reunited and he returns to the inn.

A loving portrayal of Irish mythology, and dwarf peoples also play a role in German mythology. The boundary between reality and fantasy is skilfully blurred and the necessity of such parallel and shadow worlds for people is demonstrated. Photographically innovative, avoiding technical trick photography, but altogether a little too long.
