Rom. Zur Präsentation der Modelle des Modehauses von Eva Bartok (Gräfin Christiana Cuomo) erscheint das Modell Francesca Ungaro (Isabella) nicht. Man findet sie ermordet im Park vor dem Modehaus. Inspektor Thomas Reiner (Silvestri) ermittelt. Doch später findet Arianna Gorini (Nicole) das Tagebuch der Ermordeten. Sie will es zur Polizei bringen, doch man bestellt sie in den Laden ihres Freundes Dante di Paolo (Franco Scalo), eines Antiquitätenhändler. Dort wird auch sie ermordet. Das Tagebuch hatte sie nicht mehr: ihre Kollegin Mary Arden (Peggy) hat es ihr genommen und zwei Seiten daraus entfernt. Dann verbrennt sie es ganz im Kamin. Sie erhält Besuch und wird ebenfalls ermordet. Die Polizei verhaftet vier Verdächtige. Doch nun wird Lea Krüger (Greta) ermordet, und der Vorhang für den Betrachter lüftet sich: der Modesalon Geschäftsführer Cameron Mitchell (Massimo Morlacci) ist der Täter, und wollte Erpressungen Ungaros beenden; Bartok hat ihm beigestanden und zur Ablenkung den letzten Mord begangen. Nun will Mitchell, daß Bartok noch das Mannequin Claude Dantes (Tao Li) tötet und bei ihr die Mördermaske lässt, damit die Polizei einen Täter hat. Bartok tut das und Mitchell will sie dabei beseitigen – doch sie überlebt. Man tötet einander.

Wer der Täter ist und warum, das spielt bei Bava eine Nebenrolle. Er dreht in Palazzi, alles nur alt, aber die gesättigten Farben für die Kamera, welche der eigentliche Täter ist, mit Lichteffekten und roten Telefonen, spielen die Hauptrolle. Deshalb neben stimmungsvollem Farbgrusel nur wenig Dialog. Sehenswerter Trash.

Rome. The model Francesca Ungaro (Isabella) does not appear at the presentation of the models of Eva Bartok’s (Countess Christiana Cuomo) fashion house. She is found murdered in the park in front of the fashion house. Inspector Thomas Reiner (Silvestri) investigates. But later Arianna Gorini (Nicole) finds the diary of the murdered woman. She wants to take it to the police, but she is ordered to the shop of her friend Dante di Paolo (Franco Scalo), an antique dealer. There she is also murdered. She no longer had the diary: her colleague Mary Arden (Peggy) took it from her and removed two pages from it. Then she burns it completely in the fireplace. She receives a visitor and is also murdered. The police arrest four suspects. But now Lea Krüger (Greta) is murdered, and the curtain rises on the viewer: fashion salon manager Cameron Mitchell (Massimo Morlacci) is the culprit, and wanted to stop blackmailing Ungaros; Bartok stood by him and committed the last murder as a distraction. Now Mitchell wants Bartok to kill the mannequin Claude Dantes (Tao Li) and leave the murder mask with her so that the police have a culprit. Bartok does this and Mitchell wants to eliminate her in the process – but she survives. They kill each other.

Who the killer is and why plays a secondary role in Bava’s work. He shoots in palazzi, everything just old, but the saturated colours for the camera, which is the real culprit, with lighting effects and red telephones, play the main role. Therefore, apart from atmospheric colour horror, only little dialogue. Trash worth seeing.
