Mercenario – der Gefürchtete

Mexiko 1915. Der Söldner Franco Nero (Sergej Kowalski), zu Anfang Ich-Erzähler, soll einen Silbertransport in die USA bringen – doch die Mine ist vom revolutionären Führer der Minenarbeiter Tony Musante (Paco Roman) besetzt. Der bezahlt Nero fortan dafür, daß er ihn bei seinen „revolutionären“ Räubereien unterstützt. Musante entwickelt immer mehr idealistischen Elan, doch erkennt nach einer Trennung, daß er ohne Nero nicht überleben kann. Dennoch trennt er sich schließlich von ihm.

Technisch brillant, episodisch, inhaltlich zynisch und intelligent. Jedoch wirken diese intellektuell gebrochenen Superhelden der damaligen Italowestern nur begrenzt: mit einem Fuß in der Gesellschaft, mit einem Fuß daraußen, führen sie Zirkusnummern auf, statt Teil einer Geschichte zu sein.

Mexico 1915: The mercenary Franco Nero (Sergej Kowalski), initially a first-person narrator, is supposed to bring a shipment of silver to the USA – but the mine is occupied by the revolutionary leader of the miners Tony Musante (Paco Roman). From then on, he pays Nero to support him in his ‘revolutionary’ robberies. Musante develops more and more idealistic vigour, but after a separation he realises that he cannot survive without Nero. Nevertheless, he finally breaks up with him.

Technically brilliant, episodic, cynical and intelligent in content. However, these intellectually broken superheroes of the Italowesterns of the time only have a limited effect: with one foot in society and one foot out, they perform circus acts instead of being part of a story.
