Letztes Jahr in Marienbad

Giorgio Albertazzi (X) trifft in einem schloßartigen Hotel Delphine Seyrig (A), behauptet, daß sie sich ihm vor einem Jahr versprochen habe. Sie behauptet, von nichts zu wissen, ihr Freund Sacha Pitoeff (M) möchte sie halten, aber sie geht mit Albertazzi.

Literarisch am nouveau roman orientierter Film, dessen Prinzip darin gesteht, Details genau zu berichten, auch solche des Innenlebens, ohne sich wirklich auf eine Geschichte festzulegen. Das kann immer noch der Zuschauer tun. Solche Filme können rasch altern, weil sie auf ihre äußere Form setzen. Rührend bleibt die Erklärung, wie dieser Film anzupacken sei, in den Titelkarten des Vorspanns.

A film with a literary orientation towards the nouveau roman, whose principle lies in recounting details precisely, including those of inner life, without really committing to a story. That is still left to the viewer. Such films can age quickly because they rely on their external form. The explanation of how this film should be approached, given in the opening credits, remains touching.
