Lemmy Caution gegen Alpha 60

1984 in der unmenschlichen Stadt Alphaville. Die Länder der Aussenwelt haben Eddie Constantine (Ivan Johnson alias Lemmy Caution) dorthin entsandt, um seinen Vorgänger Akim Tamiroff (Henri Dickson) aufzuspüren und Howard Vernon (Nosferatu alias Professor Leonard von Braun) herauszuholen. Er findet mit Hilfe von Vernons Tochter Anna Karina (Natascha von Braun) Tamiroff voller Drogen und sterbend. Er erzählt, das Vernon ein grosses Elektronengehirn gebaut hat, das die Stadt beherrscht. Gefühle, gar Tränen, sind verboten. Wer sich nicht anpasst, begeht Selbstmord oder wird hingerichtet. Ein Gespräch Constantines mit Vernon verläuft ohne Ergebnis. Constantine kann Alpha 60, das Elektronengehirn, zerstören. Viele Menschen in Alphaville werden deshalb sterben. Constantine hat sich in Karina verliebt, die dieses Wort nicht kennt, und flieht mit ihr in die Länder der Aussenwelt.

Ein Film, der heute noch weniger als damals die Zukunft schildert, sondern ein nächtliches Paris der 60er Jahre zur Zukunft erklärt. Er hält der Lieblosigkeit die Poesie entgegen. Mental sind wir heute Alphaville näher: Rückbau der Gefühle, Umgang in lockeren Floskeln ohne Inhalt, sogar die damals noch omnipräsenten Zigaretten sind abgeschafft.

1984 in the inhuman city of Alphaville. The nations of the outside world have sent Eddie Constantine (Ivan Johnson, alias Lemmy Caution) there to track down his predecessor, Akim Tamiroff (Henri Dickson), and rescue Howard Vernon (Nosferatu, alias Professor Leonard von Braun). With the help of Vernon’s daughter Anna Karina (Natascha von Braun), he finds Tamiroff, drugged and dying. He reveals that Vernon has built a vast electronic brain that controls the city. Emotions, even tears, are forbidden. Those who do not conform commit suicide or are executed. A conversation between Constantine and Vernon yields no result. Constantine is able to destroy Alpha 60, the electronic brain. Many people in Alphaville will die as a result. Constantine has fallen in love with Karina, who does not know the meaning of the word, and flees with her to the lands of the outside world.

A film that depicts the future even less today than it did back then, but instead declares a nocturnal Paris of the 1960s to be the future. It sets poetry against lovelessness. Mentally, we are closer to Alphaville today: the dismantling of emotions, communication in empty platitudes, even the cigarettes that were still omnipresent back then have been abolished.
