Jagt den Fuchs

Zunächst zitiert der Film die grössten Goldräubereien: er will den von Kairo mit Barren im Wert von 3 Millionen Dollar schildern. Zwei Tonnen Gold müssen nach Rom. Nur der wieder freie Ausbrecherkönig Peter Sellers (Aldo Vanucci), der „Fuchs“, kann Akim Tamiroff (Okra) dabei helfen. Der will den Transport als Regisseur „Federico Fabrici“  getarnt als Filmszene am hellichten Tag bewirken. Er engagiert den Filmstar Victor Mature (Tony Powell) und ein halbes Fischerdorf dafür. Doch die Sache fliegt auf. Sellers wird zu fünf Jahren Haft verurteilt, kündigt aber exakt den Termin seines Ausbruchs an.

Peter in allen Gassen. Er wird als der eingeführt, der den verbrecherischen Transfer organisieren kann und zieht seine Register. Neil Simon ist spürbar.  Weitgehend vergnüglich – und mit einem Gastauftritt des Regisseurs de Sica bei Filmarbeiten.

The film begins by referencing the greatest gold heists: it aims to depict the one from Cairo involving bars worth 3 million dollars. Two tonnes of gold must be transported to Rome. Only the recently released escape artist Peter Sellers (Aldo Vanucci), known as ‘The Fox’, can help Akim Tamiroff (Okra) with this. He plans to stage the transport as a film scene in broad daylight, disguised as the director ‘Federico Fabrici’. He hires the film star Victor Mature (Tony Powell) and half a fishing village for the job. Yet the plot is uncovered. Sellers is sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, but announces the exact date of his escape.

Peter is everywhere. He is introduced as the man who can organise the criminal transfer and pulls out all the stops. Neil Simon’s influence is palpable.  Largely entertaining – and featuring a cameo appearance by director de Sica on a film set.
