Chicago. Mathematik-Professorin Jill Clayburgh (Kate Gunzinger) erhält aus New York das Angebot einer attraktive Stelle – zudem will ihr Vater Steve Hill (Jakob Gunzinger) dort wieder heiraten. Nach Diskussion mit ihrem Freund Charles Grodin (Homer), der spürt, daß New York die Beziehung aufs Spiel setzt, sie aber ermuntert, verbringt Clayburgh eine Wochenende in New York. Sie lernt die Braut ihres Vaters Beverly Garland (Emma) besser kenenn und verliebt sich in deren Sohn Michael Douglas (Ben Lewin), vergißt ihren Freund in Chicago, Charles Grodin (Homer). Sie bekommt den Job, streitet sich mit Douglas, aber in Chicago kommt durch Boten ein Geschenk von ihm…

Eine Prise des spröden Charmes von Clayburgh, eine Prise New York, der Anticharme des bärtigen Douglas als Sprengsatz. In den Liebesszenen zwischen ihm und Clayburgh versackt der gefällige Film stets in Langeweile. Ein Stück Lebensgefühl der beginnenden 1980er ohne Belang.

Chicago. Maths professor Jill Clayburgh (Kate Gunzinger) receives an attractive job offer from New York – and her father Steve Hill (Jakob Gunzinger) wants to remarry there. After discussing it with her boyfriend Charles Grodin (Homer), who senses that New York will jeopardise their relationship but encourages her nonetheless, Clayburgh spends a weekend in New York. She gets to know her father’s bride Beverly Garland (Emma) better and falls in love with her son Michael Douglas (Ben Lewin), forgetting her boyfriend in Chicago, Charles Grodin (Homer). She gets the job, argues with Douglas, but in Chicago a gift from him arrives by courier…

A pinch of Clayburgh’s aloof charm, a pinch of New York, the anti-charm of the bearded Douglas as an explosive element. In the love scenes between him and Clayburgh, the pleasing film always sinks into boredom. A piece of the attitude to life in the early 1980s without any significance.
