New York. Weil er dringend Geld braucht, da er die einzigen trockenen Ölquellen in Texas hat, muss James Garner (HenryTyroon) 1,2 Millionen Dollar auftreiben. Er trifft Lee Reemick (Molly Thatcher), einzige weibliche Stock-Analystin von „Bear, Osgood & Whitby“. Dieser Firma geht es schlecht. Unter anderem sitzt sie auf wertlosen Aktien von ‚Universal Widget‘, die Reemick verkaufen muss. Garner macht an allen Ecken Geschäfte, aber er will Reemick helfen, bohrt unsinnigerweise auf dem Widget Gelände nach Öl, findet aber bald heraus, dass das Vermögen der Widgets selbst in Aktien dritter Firmen liegt, deren Wert sie nicht kennen. Widget Aktien steigen, die SEC ermittelt, Widget wird von texanischen Freunden von Garner übernommen und von der Börse genommen. Doch die sorgen auch dafür, dass Reemick entlassen wird, damit sie Zeit für Garner hat – was Reemick Garner zuschreibt. Am Ende hat Garner sein Geld, entpuppt sich als Kind der Ostküste, und bekommt Reemick.

Sehr muntere und witzige Situations- und Dialogkomödie, die eine Gratwanderung zwischen texanischem und New Yorker Geschäftsmethoden vollführt, aber alles als das große Spiel ausgibt, das es auch ist. Auch schauspielerisch attraktiv.

New York. Because he urgently needs money, as he has the only dry oil wells in Texas, James Garner (HenryTyroon) has to raise 1.2 million dollars. He meets Lee Reemick (Molly Thatcher), the only female stock analyst at „Bear, Osgood & Whitby“. This firm is in bad shape. Among other things, it is sitting on worthless shares in ‚Universal Widget‘, which Reemick has to sell. Garner makes deals at all corners, but wanting to help Reemick, drills nonsensically for oil at the Widget site, but soon finds out that the Widget fortune itself is in shares of third party companies whose value they don’t know. Widget shares rise, the SEC investigates, Widget is taken over by Garner’s Texan friends and delisted. But they also make sure Reemick is fired so she can spend time with Garner – which Reemick attributes to Garner. In the end, Garner has his money, turns out to be an East Coast kid, and gets Reemick.

Very chirpy and witty situation and dialogue comedy that walks a tightrope between Texan and New York business methods, but passes it all off as the big game it is. Attractive acting as well.
