Gardenia, eine Frau will vergessen

Los Angeles. Die Telefonistin Anne Baxter (Nora Larkin) erfährt an ihrem Geburtstag durch einen Brief ihres in Korea stationierten Freundes, er habe sich einer Krankenschwester zugewandt. Sie nimmt die Einladung des Pin-Up-Malers Raymond Burr (Harry Prebble) zum Abendessen in die „Blue Gardenia“ an, betrinkt sich und folgt ihm in die Wohnung. Burr wird mit einem Feuerhaken erschlagen; Baxter hält sich für schuldig. Der Starjournalist Richard Conte (Casey Mayo) vom „Los Angeles Chronicle“ appelliert mit einem Angebot von Hilfe in der Zeitung, die Mörderin möge sich stellen. Baxter meldet sich; er ist beeindruckt und ihre Verhaftung bestürzt ihn. Aber er findet heraus, dass die wahre Täterin Ruth Storey (Rose Miller) war, eine „Verlobte“ von Burr.

Die Story und die Personen dieses Films: nicht von besonderem Interesse. Alle sind einsam, und eine Mitbewohnerin ist erst nach der Scheidung zur Freundin ihres Mannes geworden…

Los Angeles. The telephone operator Anne Baxter (Nora Larkin) learns on her birthday from a letter from her friend stationed in Korea that he has turned to a nurse. She accepts the invitation of the pin-up painter Raymond Burr (Harry Prebble) to dinner at the „Blue Gardenia“, gets drunk and follows him into the flat. Burr is beaten to death with a fire poker; Baxter considers himself guilty. The star journalist Richard Conte (Casey Mayo) of the „Los Angeles Chronicle“ appeals with an offer of help in the newspaper that the murderer should turn herself in. Baxter answers; he is impressed and her arrest upsets him. But he finds out that the real killer was Ruth Storey (Rose Miller), a „fiancée“ of Burr.

The story and the characters in this film: not of particular interest. They are all lonely, and one of the roommates became her husband’s girlfriend only after the divorce…
