Die Haut des Anderen

Wien. Der französische Geheimdienstler Lino Ventura (Pascal Fabre alias Viviani) soll seinen Kollegen Lean Bouise (Margeri) auf Loyalität prüfen. Doch Bouise besitzt Dokumente, an denen Wolfgang Preiss (Chalieff) von der sowjetischen Botschaft Interesse hat. Preiss lässt Bouise und dessen Freundin Marilù Tolo (Anna Brebat) entführen. Ventura, der für Bouise freundschaftliche Gefühle hegt, bemüht sich, selbst in den Besitz der Dokumente auf Mikrofilm zu gelangen, die er im Kopf des Stockes von Bouise findet. Er lässt Preiss zuspielen, sein Mitarbeiter habe den Mikrofilm gefunden. Als Bouise davon hört, schneidet er sich die Pulsadern auf und verblutet. Ventura erfährt, daß Bouise die Informationen an den chinesischen Geheimdienst verkaufen wollte.

Wien (einschließlich des Kaffehauses Landtmann) ist, damals noch nicht herausgeputzt, optisch präsent, aber nicht akustisch. Kein Ton Wienerisch. Ansonsten behäbig inszeniert und in zäher Handlungsführung und mit einer feuilletonisch anmutenden Musik.

Vienna. French secret agent Lino Ventura (Pascal Fabre alias Viviani) is tasked with testing the loyalty of his colleague Lean Bouise (Margeri). But Bouise is in possession of documents that Wolfgang Preiss (Chalieff) from the Soviet embassy is interested in. Preiss has Bouise and his girlfriend Marilù Tolo (Anna Brebat) kidnapped. Ventura, who is friendly towards Bouise, tries to get hold of the microfilm documents himself, which he finds in Bouise’s walking stick. He lets Preiss know that his colleague has found the microfilm. When Bouise hears about this, he slits his wrists and bleeds to death. Ventura learns that Bouise wanted to sell the information to the Chinese secret service.

Vienna (including the Landtmann coffee house), not yet spruced up at that time, is visually present but not acoustically. No Viennese dialect. Otherwise, the film is sedately staged with a slow-moving plot and music reminiscent of a café-society revue.
