Die Goldgräber von 1933

New York zur Zeit der Depression. Der vermeintlich arme Komponist und Sänger Dick Powell (Brad Roberts alias Robert Treat Bradford) ermöglicht dem Produzenten Ned Sparks (Barney Hopkins) mit dem Geld seiner reichen Bostoner Familie eine Show, in der die junge Ruby Keeler (Polly Parker) auftritt, seine Liebe, die er später gegen den Widerstand seines Bruders Warren William (J. Lawrence Bradford) heiratet.

Weniger kraft- und tempogeladen als „42nd Street“, wurden die Songs dieses Films später in das Bühnenrevival von „42nd“ Street in den 80er-Jahren integriert; dennoch aber zügig inszeniert und mit großartigen Musiknummern von Busby Berkeley.

The seemingly poor composer and singer Dick Powell (Brad Roberts aka Robert Treat Bradford) enables the producer Ned Sparks (Barney Hopkins) with the money of his rich Boston family to put on a show in which the young Ruby Keeler (Polly Parker) performs, his love whom he later marries against the resistance of his brother Warren William (J. Lawrence Bradford).

Less powerful and fast-paced than „42nd Street“, the songs of this film were later incorporated into the stage revival of „42nd“ Street in the 1980s; nevertheless, briskly staged and with great musical numbers by Busby Berkeley.
