Der Kuß der Spinnenfrau

Südamerika. Der homosexuelle William Hurt (Luis Molina) und der Revolutionär Raul Julia (Valentin Arregui) sitzen im Gefängnis. Hurt erzählt den Inhalt von Kitschfilmen, soll Julia bespitzeln und verliebt sich in ihn. Nach Hurts Entlassung nimmt er mit den Revolutionären und Julias Freundin Maria Braga (Lidia) Kontakt auf und wird von ihr erschossen, als die Geheimpolizei angreift.

Inhalte der erzählten Filme und Gefängnisrealität verwebt Babenco gut, seine Darsteller, insbesondere Hurt, sind erstklassig, aber das gedankliche Konzept des Films hat man zu schnell verstanden, als daß Langeweile ausbleiben könnte.

Hurt narrates the contents of kitsch films, is supposed to spy on Julia and falls in love with him. After Hurt’s release, he makes contact with the revolutionaries and Julia’s girlfriend Maria Braga (Lidia) and is shot by her when the secret police attack.

Babenco interweaves the content of the narrated films and prison reality well, his actors, especially Hurt, are first class, but the concept of the film is understood too quickly to avoid boredom.
