Palestine. The angel Rossana Di Rocco announces to the carpenter Marcello Morante (Joseph) that a child of the Lord will be born to his wife Margherita Caruso (Mary). When the child is born, the angel orders him to flee to Egypt to escape Herod’s henchmen, and years later to return. The grown Enrique Irazoqui (Jesus Christ) is tempted by the devil, gathers disciples around him, goes to Jerusalem, is finally crucified and is resurrected.

Intense portrayal of the story of salvation in sparse landscapes and almost only in close-ups of faces and long shots, without dialogues but in monologues. The effect of the figure of Jesus, combined with texts taken from the Bible, is very strong. However, the film remains interpretable in many ways.
