Goldfieber in Alaska

Skagway, Alasaka, 1900. Goldgräber Clark Gable (Jack Thornton) will heim nach Chicago, verliert aber alles Geld beim Spiel. Er trifft seinen Freund Jack Oakie („Shorty“ Hoolihan), der eine Karte mit dem Weg zu einer Goldstelle kopiert hat. Mit dem Hund King (Buck), den Gable kauft, machen sich beide auf den Weg. Unterwegs treffen sie auf Loretta Young (Claire Blake), deren Mann Frank Conroy (John) in der Wildnis verschollen ist – beiden gehört das Original der Karte. Zu dritt zieht man weiter; Gable und Young verlieben sich in einander. Man findet das Gold am Fluß. Der reiche Gauner Reginald Owen (Smith) hat den wiederaufgetauchten Conroy gezwungen, ihn an die Stelle zu führen; aber Owen stirbt mit einer schweren Ladung Gold in den Stromschnellen. Gable verzichtet auf Young, die mit Conroy in die Stadt geht; King geht zu den Wölfen, aber Oakie kehrt mit angemeldetem Claim aus der Stadt zurück….

Äußerlich und effektvoll erzählte Geschichte, die Charaktere zeigt, aber sich um ihre Zeichnung nicht bemüht und die aus dem Hund, den die Wölfe rufen, ein knuffiges Haustier macht. TV-Länge des Originals: 88 Minuten. Die kurze Fassung läßt ahnen, wo geschnitten wurde.

He meets his friend Jack Oakie („Shorty“ Hoolihan), who has copied a map with the way to a gold site. With the dog King (Buck), whom Gable buys, they both set off. On the way they meet Loretta Young (Claire Blake), whose husband Frank Conroy (John) is lost in the wilderness – both own the original map. The three of them move on; Gable and Young fall in love with each other. They find the gold by the river. The rich crook Reginald Owen (Smith) has forced the resurrected Conroy to lead him to the spot; but Owen dies in the rapids with a heavy load of gold. Gable dispenses with Young, who goes to town with Conroy; King goes to the Wolves, but Oakie returns from town with claim filed….

Outwardly and effectively told story that shows characters but makes no effort to draw them, and that makes a cuddly pet out of the dog the wolves call. TV length of the original: 88 minutes. The short version gives an inkling of where cuts were made.
